Her Precious Blood: The Spiritual and Medical Journey of Faith and Perseverance by Sister Mary Assumpta of the Precious Blood, O.P.
Before the cloister, Sister Mary Assumpta, O.P. was living the dream of a liberated American woman. She obtained a graduate degree in Education and eventually became a highly successful real estate agent, enjoying many of the available benefits: red Mercedes, a vacation home on Great Island in Galilee, Rhode Island and a tailor-made mink coat. Material possession and good times filled her days.
But she experienced a sense of restlessness that eventually led her back to God and seeking Him in the quiet solitude of a Dominican cloister. It was this relationship with Jesus, cultivated within her Dominican community, that would carry her through her darkest days and toughest challenges as she battled cancer.
"I believe that every circumstance in life is meant to lead us more deeply into the Heart of Christ." - Sister Mary Assumpta of the Precious Blood, O.P.

From the backcover:
Years passed, and my life took many turns. I earned a Master's Degree in Education, taught in the public school system, and became a highly successful Real Estate agent. I was probably one of the first among my friends to subscribe to "New Woman" magazine.
It felt just great when I bought my first BMW and then a bright red Mercedes. The process of purchasing a tailor-made mink coat was also a real experience...I owned real property, including a home on Great Island in Galilee, Rhode Island. Material possession and good times filled my days.
I had chosen the way of the world. During those years when I foolishly sought worldly gain, I became distant from God and had forgotten about Him. I slowly realized that I had gone down the wrong path.
Excluding God had brought a sense of restlessness to me which I didn't recognize at the time. Eventually, the truth of St. Augustine "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee" took hold of me. I soon realized that true happiness could not be found in the false values of the material world.
Seeking truth in the midst of my disillusionment ripened me for conversion. I came to realize that God's wisdom is far beyond our capacity to understand. I believe that every circumstance in life is meant to lead us more deeply into the Heart of Christ.
